Can I say the best compact camera under $500?
Strengths: Panasonic has quality in mind in designing this camera
Weakness: Difficult to find a case
I finally replaced my 3 years old point and shoot with LX3. It is a big improvement over LX2 - better CCD, better Optics and better operation. 24mm Super Wide angle is really useful. Some might complain the relatively short 60mm telephoto limit but do you really use your 10x zoom that often? The image quality is still no match to DSLR. But with the leica lens, full manual mode, optical stabilizer and raw mode, it is as good as you can get in this category. I forgot to mention it supports 720p HD Video mode. The result is stunning! It limits to 2GB recording a time (about 10mins) and prepare enough SD card and batteries if you are a fan of this! My only complain so far - too difficult to find a nice, fit case. Original case costs more than $100 and is only available overseas. I found Lowepro Reno 50 but it is a bit bulky.
