Can I say the best compact camera under $500?

Strengths: Panasonic has quality in mind in designing this camera

Weakness: Difficult to find a case

I finally replaced my 3 years old point and shoot with LX3. It is a big improvement over LX2 - better CCD, better Optics and better operation. 24mm Super Wide angle is really useful. Some might complain the relatively short 60mm telephoto limit but do you really use your 10x zoom that often? The image quality is still no match to DSLR. But with the leica lens, full manual mode, optical stabilizer and raw mode, it is as good as you can get in this category. I forgot to mention it supports 720p HD Video mode. The result is stunning! It limits to 2GB recording a time (about 10mins) and prepare enough SD card and batteries if you are a fan of this! My only complain so far - too difficult to find a nice, fit case. Original case costs more than $100 and is only available overseas. I found Lowepro Reno 50 but it is a bit bulky.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 | Black

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 is another of Panasonics new crop of wide-angle digital cameras. With only 2.5x optical zoom, the DMC-LX3 is has the smallest zoom range of any Lumix wide-angle cameras. It seems that with the DMC-LX3 Panasonics intention is to create a camera that does one thing really well, rather than many things decently. The CCD sensor is larger than most, but limited to 10.1...

Best Digital Compact Camera for Printing Photos

The Panasomic Lumix LX3 is a digital compact camera for true photographers. The extremely fast lens is arguably the LX3’s biggest draw, offering 24mm wide-angle capability and F2.0-2.8...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 review

Panasonic has dealt with criticism of Megapixel race opponents in a serious way, and leaves a positive impression with the LX3. This is an impression with which Panasonic once again distinguish themselves from the crowd. The improvements are visible or at least measurable, and do not lead to the absolute top compact camera, but Panasonic clearly started something that should be continued as far...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 Review

Almost in a category by itself, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 digital camera really impressed us. With a 10-megapixel imager, a high quality Leica lens, and a high-resolution 3-inch wide-screen LCD, the Panasonic LX3 was built to deliver high image quality in a small package. Gone are the noise problems of the LX2, and detail is lush. A full range of capture modes graces the LX3 -- auto and manual...

DCRP Review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 is a unique, fixed-lens camera for wide-angle enthusiasts. It offers very good photo quality (though there's room for improvement), a fast, ultra-wide lens, full manual controls, a sharp 3-inch LCD display, and support for all kinds of optional extras. It's not for everyone -- I think many people will be put off by its limited zoom range -- but if you like what the LX3...

Camera Labs – Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 review

The Lumix DMC-LX3 is Panasonic's flagship compact for enthusiasts. Coming two years after its predecessor, the new LX3 features 10.1 Megapixel resolution, full manual control, HD movie recording, a flash hotshoe, RAW recording and a 2.5x optical zoom with optical stabilisation, a bright focal ratio of f2.0 and an unusually wide angle lens with coverage equivalent to 24mm. It ticks all the right...
