Sony Alpha DSLR A200

Strengths: Price, Easy To Use, Price, Image Quality, Price!

Weakness: None! some say lack of live view but I actually like it without

Had looked for ages for my 1st DSLR & was finding it hard to decide between Canon & Nikon Until I stumbled upon a review on youtube! until then I had not even thought about Sony as an option, I done more research & went for it & all I can say is wowwww It is a very forgiving camera as most of my pictures look fantastic even though am a complete beginner I am having so much fun exploring all it's...

a good entry DSLR

Strengths: great feature-set, great value in a DSLR, noisy at high ISO but manageable...a much better implementation than the km5d and a100

Weakness: needs to be separated from that kit lens!

...this is just about the perfect entry-level DSLR. It has everything that you need to get great shots out of it, without the high price tag or a bloated feature set. I'd definitely recommend it. It's not the best, technically, but it's a great learning tool, performs well under stress, and an expert can get great shots out of it across the ISO range and in all lighting conditions. I would say...

Sony Alpha DSLR A200K a Great Buy for the Money

Strengths: In-body Stabilization, compatible w/ Minolta lenses

Weakness: Larger than most other base model DSLR's, but might not be a drawback for some

The in-body stabilization works well, but don't expect miracles (using a tripod always works best). I happen to have a whole box full of Minolta lenses and that's the main reason I chose to go with Sony. But if you don't, you can easily buy them pretty cheap. All in all a great camera w/ many features that's priced less than the competition.

Great value and excellent camera

Strengths: Very simple to use. Built In image stabilization. Feels more solid than Canon XTi. Kit lens is higher quality than some other comparable dSLRs. Lots of features compared to simliarly priced dSLRs

Weakness: No "live" view.

The strongest feature of this camera is its simplicity. The menu system is very easy to understand. For newbies going to dSLR for the 1st time like myself this is a great choice. The lens choices are also very good too since all Minolta lenses from the past 20 years work with this camera. I researched dSLRs for a long time before making this choice and I don't regret this purchase one bit. There...

Great value for an entry level DSLR

Strengths: Feature packed, good image quality, easy handling and compatible with older Minolta auto focus lens.

Weakness: New Sony lens are expensive. Some noise at high iso.

I have to say I'm very happy so far with my choice. The auto focus is fast and accurate. The shutter response is quick. The image quality is very good with lots of detail. The exposures have been very accurate with a minimal number of photos with blown highlights. The image stabilization kicks butt. The dynamic range optimization really does pull highlights out of the shade. The sensor noise is...

Sony Alpha a200 Is Incredible!

Strengths: Its high ISO (3200) low light performance is increbible. Couple that with the built in immage stabilization gives a camera that just can't be beat in its price range.

Weakness: Manual focus ring on the 18-70 kit lens is a bit oversized.

I would have had to have spent $400 more to get the equivalent features from a Canon or Nikon camera. The set up was easy, and the menus were straight forward. I am amazed at how much functionality they packed into this small, lightweight, easy to use DSLR.

A camera that has taking pictures its main and only...

Strengths: price/performance ratio through the roof; adaptable lens; contoured body; generous viewfinder; relative exemplary battery life; IS (image stabilization) works in spades; RAW

Weakness: Hard to find official camera cases/accessories; flash implementation; CF cards; supposed jpeg limitation (but why shoot in JPEG when RAW conversion is so easy?)

Coming from a world where point and shoot cameras have been marginalized based on size and the ability to record VGA movies, I longed for a return to my classic 1980s Leica era of cameras that take pictures as its sole focus. Sony's A200k marks a classic return to that simple message, which is a camera that takes pictures well. The first thing about this camera is the heft compared to the price...

Excellent entry-level DSLR

Strengths: Price, ease of use, idiot proof, built in image-stabilization

Weakness: No live LCD view

Let me start by saying that despite having owned and used digital cameras for more than a decade, I am a novice photographer. That also accurately describes my wife. We've gotten by for years with some low to medium-end point and click digital cameras. We've been frustrated for some time at losing so many great pictures because our cheap cameras were too slow or wouldn't focus in low light. At...

Sony A200K

Strengths: Nice design and very well built. It's features are on par with it's main competitors (Canon and Nikon). The lens is nice.

Weakness: None that I can think of at the moment.

This is a great DLSR for beginners and even has enough features to satisfy professional photographers. This kit has everything you will need to start taking amazing photos. Highly recommended.

Great Camera, Great Price

Strengths: In-Body Stabilization, price, Intuitive menus/controls, Compatible with Minolta lenses, Fits nicely in the hand

Weakness: 18-70 kit lens, loud shutter, heavy

I enjoy my camera 100%, there are a lot of older minolta lenses that are very good and can be found for very good prices. I chose this over the olympus DSLR's because of the larger sensor, and I am glad that I did. The kit lens although longer that most 18-55's from competitors is pretty weak but if you stop down and correct color in post processing its not too bad, I would recommend getting it...

Sony Alpha DSLR-A200 (with 18-70mm lens)

THE GOOD: In-body image stabilization; supports wireless flash. THE BAD: Loud; Sony doesnt have a stable of inexpensive lenses for consumers; oddly located, proprietary USB connector. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Sony Alpha DSLR-A200 is a solid entry-level dSLR that doesnt really stand out in its very competitive field.

Sony Alpha DSLR-A200K | with Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization with 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens

Sonys start into the world of Digital SLRs was quite a slow paced one. The first Sony branded model, the A100, appeared on the scene in June 2006 and it took over a year for it to be joined by a companion, the A700 prosumer model which was launched in September 2007. More recently though Sony has stepped up a gear and launched not one, but three cameras to replace the A100 - the DSLR A200, A300...

Sony Alpha 200

We expect 2008 to be the year of the SLR cameras and Sony has made a head start. It will undoubtedly not be the last D-SLR of Sony that we will see this year. The Sony Alpha 200 is a joy to work with and the camera performs really well. So if you can't wait any longer and you want to get going shooting away, the choice for the Alpha 200 is an excellent one!

Sony DSLR-A200 Digital Camera Review

The DSLR-A200 is Sony’s second shot at the digital SLR market, following the company's first-ever SLR, last year’s A100. Many of the A200’s features are identical to the A100: 10.2-megapixel resolution, an image stabilization system built into the camera body, and an automatic dust removal system. The A-200's dimensions are just a hair smaller than the A-100, but the price tag is...

Sony A200 Review

The Sony A200 is a new 10 megapixel, entry-level DSLR camera. It features the same sensor, anti-dust system, eye-start auto-focus, anti-shake system and Dynamic Range Optimiser of its predecessor, the popular A100. Improvements include a smaller body, revised control layout, faster auto-focus performance, ISO 3200, and a 2.7 inch LCD screen. Is the Sony A200 a worthy successor to the A100? Mark...

DCRP Review: Sony Alpha DSLR-A200

The Sony Alpha DSLR-A200 is a very capable entry-level D-SLR that needs improvement in one important area: JPEG photo quality. The A200 offers a lot of bang for the buck, with its 10 Megapixel CCD, built-in image stabilization, snappy performance, and great battery life. If you keep the ISO sensitivity low, the photo quality is very good. However, increasing the sensitivity (especially in low...

Sony Alpha DSLR-A200 Review

Sony's base SLR for 2008 has a lot going for it, even if it doesn't dazzle at first glance. The Sony A200 has a 10.2-megapixel sensor, can capture nearly three frames per second, and the 2.7-inch LCD is wider and does pretty well in sunlight. With a good quality 18-70mm lens, the Sony A200 gives you a little more zoom than do most kit lenses that come with digital SLR cameras. One major...
